Call for applications for Master's Dissertation Research Grant for UR Registered Students.

This is a call for Scholarship Applications for two students to conduct a Masters Dissertation based Research on Indigenous Knowledge Systems and Sustainable Development in Rwanda and East Africa.

1. Background
In partnership with the International Development Research Center (IDRC), Canada, University of Rwanda is calling for Scholarship Applications for Two Masters Students. This call emanates from the understanding that in Rwanda, there is a growing interest in indigenous knowledge, which has resulted in searching out and institutionalizing certain practices that are indigenous to Rwanda, such as Gacaca, Umuganda, and Girinka. Indigenous knowledge is rooted in years of experiences of a given community, evolving gradually with time in providing solutions to existing challenges. The government of Rwanda has therefore emphasized the role of indigenous knowledge in attaining the collective aspiration of knowledge based economy. However, to achieve this goal, there is a need for emphasis on indigenous knowledge based research across disciplines, Rwanda, the Region and the African Continent. Indigenous knowledge has served as foundational in the establishment of certain disciplinary studies and research breakthroughs in the presently developed countries of Europe, North America, parts of South America and Asia.
